RESERVE – Daphne Triche, the employee of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Department who has been featured in the pages of L’Observateur recently, lost her long battle with liver cancer Monday.
According to her father, Barry Triche, Daphne was rushed to East Jefferson Hospital at about 4 p.m. Saturday, and although she fought bravely, she succumbed to the disease at about 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16, at New Wine Christian Fellowship at 1929 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace. Visitation for family members will be from 8-8:30 a.m., and general visitation will follow until 11 a.m. Services follow visitation.
Daphne was first diagnosed with this particularly aggressive form of cancer in February 2009. Because this type of cancer is often not diagnosed until it is too late, patients are generally given a prognosis of six to nine months to live.
The community rallied around Daphne, and recently a group of volunteers served over 1,800 plates of spaghetti to help cover medical costs.
