LAFITTE – The St. Charles formula has been to force an early mistake or two, capitalize and ride a balanced attack to victory. It has SCC at 6-0 after Friday night’s 42-0 victory at Fisher.
The Comets rushed for 335 yards and six scores, outscoring the Gators 35-0 in the first half.
Comets’ tailback Marcus Hall followed up his five touchdown game against Newman with a 122 yard, three score effort on 11 carries. Lazedrick Thompson added 78 yards and two scores on just five.
SCC quarterback Donnie Savoie was efficient, completing seven of his eight passing attempts for 109 yards.
“We just took care of the ball and mixed it up,” said St. Charles coach Frank Monica. “It was nothing flashy. I was very pleased with our execution and the way we defended.”
The Comet defense held Fisher to 112 yards of total offense.
“Their quarterback being out limited them a bit,” said Monica. “They really weren’t able to go down field and that put the onus on our front seven tonight. And those guys did a tremendous job.”
After St. Charles (6-0, 3-0) recovered an early fumble on an errant exchange between center and quarterback, Hall cashed in on a 10-yard run to make it 7-0.
Thompson was next to strike, his 32-yard touchdown run making it 14-0. Brandon Zimmer then got in on the scoring bonanza, cashing in on an 18-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0 headed into the second quarter.
Things got no better for the Gators (3-3, 0-3) there as Thompson and Hall capped Comet drives with short scoring runs.
“We played on their side of the field for much of the night. Our defense made them punt and we took advantage of some short ones,” said Monica.
Hall capped the scoring off with a 5-yard scoot in the third quarter.
