LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s authorities found the body of a 19-year-old LaPlace woman Wednesday morning who had been reported missing the night before, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said detectives located the body of Courtney Anne Carroll in a canal near her home on Greenwood Drive. Clement said Carroll’s family had reported her missing the night before after she went out jogging and never came back.

“The family said she had left the house around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night and never returned,” Clement said. “After trying repeatedly to contact her, the family called the Sheriff’s Office around 10:30 p.m. that night.”

Clement said the cause of death has not been determined. He said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning. He said there is no evidence of foul play as of yet, but the incident is still under investigation.
