At 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, Doris Marie Landry Berget, a 30-year resident of LaPlace, passed peacefully after a long illness. She was born in New Orleans on March 8, 1935, to Joseph and Amalize Ordoyne Landry. Three other siblings, Joseph Jr., Rita Mae Boudreaux and James, all deceased, were waiting for her at the Gates.

She married Dick “Pearly” Berget, a guitarist for the Lawrence Welk Rep. Show, in 1952. Her husband of 31 years, he passed in 1983 and has been waiting for her to join him for 27 years.

Together they had four children, Dick “Butch” Jr., Debra L. Mustin, Donald and Diana L. Hager and an adopted daughter, Delilah, all living and missing her.

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

At her request, a simple, graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. at the St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Airline Highway in LaPlace. All are welcome. A private reception will follow.

It was Doris’ request that guests not bring her flowers.

Instead, she asked that they give flowers to someone still alive that they care about. (Mama had a way of being direct).

Her son will sing a special tribute song that he wrote for his mother.

Please come and celebrate with the family and friends.
