LUTCHER – It was a tale of two halves as Dutchtown claimed a 28-14 win over Lutcher in Friday’s season opener.

Dutchtown shut out the Bulldogs in the first half, piling on four touchdowns. In the second half, the tables turned as the Bulldogs scored all 14 of their points and kept the Griffins off the scoreboard.

Lutcher head coach Tim Detillier credited the Griffins for executing their game plan.

“In the second half, we played like I thought we would,” he said. “Dutchtown just slammed it shut.”

Dutchtown debuted its new spread-style offense in the season opener. Detillier pointed to Griffins quarterback Leon Blouin and running back Effrem Reed as making the difference.

“There are not too many Reeds and Blouins out there. Tonight they were a big factor in the spread. Blouin controlled the football game.”

Despite his team falling behind by four scores at the half, Detillier said the Bulldogs left their locker room determined to turn things around in the second half.

“There was no quit in the Bulldogs,” he said.

Lutcher running back Daniel Taylor ran for a touchdown with 10:51 remaining. Wide receiver Jarvis Landry caught a touchdown pass with 4:35 left, then ran in a two-point conversion.

Lutcher tried an onside kick, but Dutchtown recovered and was able to run out the clock.

Dutchtown head coach Benny Saia said even a big lead is never safe against a team like Lutcher.

“It’s much more fun to be in front than behind. But we knew they would get into gear. They have too many weapons,” Saia said.

Dutchtown scored at the 7:09 mark in the first quarter on an 8-yard touchdown run by Reed. The extra point failed.

Dutchtown would get the ball right back on Lutcher’s first play from scrimmage. Defensive back Jacolby Bureau intercepted a pass at the Lutcher 24.

The Griffins capitalized as Reed ran in a second touchdown at the 5:44 mark in the first. Graham Wilfong’s extra point gave the Griffins a 13-0 lead.

Dutchtown extended its lead when Blouin scored on a quarterback sneak with 6:34 left in the second. The Griffins converted for two points when holder Evan Maiocchi threw a pass to tight end Alec Osborne, who stretched the ball over the goal. Dutchtown held a 21-0 lead.

With 3:28 left in the second, Reed scored on a 3-yard carry to extend the Griffins lead to 28-0.
