A new adventure for the ‘Senior Friends’

Forty-seven members from River Parishes Hospital’s Senior Friends Program enjoyed a chartered bus trip to Baton Rouge.

The group began their trip at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol where they were greeted by a docent who gave the history of the 150-year-old statehouse. They were then able to tour the many exhibits throughout the house including the Basketball Hall of Fame Exhibit and the newly opened Ghost of the Castle Exhibit featuring Sarah Morgan, an authentic Civil War-era figure who loved the castle from the day it was built and wrote passionately about it in her published Diary of a Confederate Girl. Next, the group enjoyed lunch at Picadilly Cafeteria; then traveled to the Louisiana State Museum where they enjoyed a self-guided tour of the Louisiana Purchase, Sportsmen’s Paradise and Mardi Gras traditions throughout the state.

The chartered bus trips are just a few of the many activities available to seniors through the hospital’s Senior Friends Program. Members also receive discounts in the hospital cafeteria and gift shop, in the Fit At 50 exercise classes, and at several local businesses in the River Parishes area. In addition, members receive valuable health, wellness and travel discounts through the National Association of Senior Friends.
