Lending a hand to new students

Destrehan High School held its Freshman/New Student Orientation, presented by DHS’s Kick-Off Mentors program. Kick-Off Mentors is a nationally recognized program used in high schools whose purpose is to ease the transition from eighth to ninth grade, lower the dropout rate and help the incoming freshman feel at home at DHS. The mentors gave guided tours to students as well as helping them meet their new teachers and use their lockers. The mentors then put on a pep rally to make the students fired up for the new school year. However, the DHS KOM program goes beyond just working with orientation. Freshman teachers select mentors so they can mentor our baby wildcats for the entire school year.
