LAPLACE –St. John the Baptist Parish authorities are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a LaPlace restaurant at gunpoint Tuesday night, according to a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said an unidentified man with a rag over his face walked into a Subway Restaurant in the 1900 block of US Highway 51 around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The suspect grabbed a female employee, who was wiping down tables near the door, and pointed a handgun at the 25-year-old female manager,” he said. “He demanded the manager give him all the money from the cash register.”

Clement said the suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and ran out the restaurant in an unknown direction.

No one was injured in the incident, he said.

The employees told detectives the man stood about 6 feet tall and wore a black shirt, blue jeans and a black rag over his mouth and nose.

Clement said deputies canvassed the area looking for the suspect but were unsuccessful. Anyone with information regarding the robbery should call St. John Parish Sheriff’s Det. Staty Lewis at 985-359-8769 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
