EDGARD – West St. John finished its regular season on a high note and awaited word on its postseason fate early this week.
The Rams defeated Ascension Christian 16-6 in six innings in a District 8-1A game in Edgard to wrap up their second straight win.
West St. John (9-11, 4-8) scored 14 runs in the last two innings to clinch the win.
Ascension Christian led 5-2 after four innings before the Ram bats erupted.
“We had a little bit of a sluggish start,” said Madere.
“It took awhile to break it open, but we got through it.”
Steven Brignac went 3-for-4 to lead the Ram hitters. Kenneth Taylor collected two hits.
Madere said a key was again the pitching of Devon Jackson, who pitched 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings in relief.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries and lapses this season, but he’s been a huge plus on the mound,” said Madere. “The way he’s pitched down the stretch has really been a highlight.
“Now, hopefully we can build on that and play a few more in the playoffs.”
