Living close to or having survived Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike, truly knowing from experience what the people of Haiti are going through. It’s only been two months since the Jan. 12 earthquake occurred that destroyed the city of Port-au-Prince and changed the lives of Haitians. While plans are still being made to build a better Haiti, the survivors are still in need.

The youth of Lutcher Chapel United Methodist Church heard about the current rains of March that terrified families, flooded schools and re-destroyed shoes and clothing of the survivors. The youth of Lutcher Chapel United Methodist Church have partnered with Sole4Souls, a Nashvillebased charity to collect shoes for the Haitian survivors. After shoes are collected by the youth, they will be sent to Soles4Souls, which will deliver the shoes, free of charge, to the people of Haiti.

Today the youth of Lutcher Chapel United Methodist will receive shoes from anyone who wants to donate to this worthy cause. Shoes will be collected from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. at Lutcher Chapel United Methodist Church, 2290 Exchange Alley, Lutcher. To also donate your slightly worn shoes contact Rev Elva Jacobs at 225-761-8167, Kalen Henderson at 985-535-2832 or Sandra Home at 985-652-6278.
