NEW ORLEANS – Newman’s Peter Moss shot a match-low 41 on Monday as Newman defeated St. Charles, 175-183, at Lakewood Country Club.
“I was pretty pleased with how we played, considering that my team had never played there before,” said SCC coach Gary Zeringue.
“Lance Perrilloux did once, but it was a few years back. You may know where a sandtrap or a body of water is, but until you’ve played there it’s tough to account for. I thought our guys did a real good job with that challenge.”
Jesse Coleman shot a 43 to lead St. Charles. Perrilloux shot a 45. Matt Autin added a 46 and Ryan St. Pierre and John Troclair each shot 49.
Coleman eagled on the fourth hole, a par 5, and Zeringue said was pushing to shoot in the 30s for a time before a double bogey set him back.
Overall, the coach had no complaints.
“Lakeland is a beautiful course, and it was in probably the best shape of any that we’ve played on so far at this time of the year,” he said.
