LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish say a Gramercy woman was robbed at gunpoint early Monday as she was walked along West Second Street in LaPlace.

The 48-year-old woman, whose name was not released, told St. John Sheriff’s deputies she was walking to her friend’s car in the 300 block of West Second Street around 1 a.m. when a male subject approached her with a hand gun, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

“Investigators said the suspect placed the handgun into her left side,” Clement said. “He then grabbed the woman’s purse, which contained a small sum of cash, and fled the area.”

The woman said the suspect was wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored hat, Clement said, adding that deputies searched the immediate area for the suspect with no positive results.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office detective bureau.
