METAIRIE – East St. John had a successful weekend at the Grace King tournament, sweeping three games and moving to 4-3 on the season.
The Wildcats defeated East Jefferson on Thursday, 11-4. On Friday, ESJ secured a convincing win against Riverdale, 14-0, then on Saturday came from behind to knock off Fisher, 7-3.
“We were a little sluggish on Thursday,” said East St. John coach Ryan Sims. “But we played pretty well from there. Hopefully this is the kind of weekend that can get us on a roll.”
Fisher scored a run in each of the first three innings on Saturday to take a 3-1 lead on ESJ. But the fourth inning turned the game around when the Wildcats put six runs on the board to go up by four.
ESJ’s relievers held from there, led by Bryton Trepagnier. He came on in the third and lasted 2.1 innings, striking out six.
Andrew Taylor led the ESJ bats, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and four RBIs.
“We fought back to win that one. I felt like it showed the character our guys have,” said Sims.
On Friday, Jarvis Johnson and LeBaron Sylvester each tallied three RBIs to lead the Wildcats to a 14-0 win over Riverdale. Johnson went 2-for-3.
Daniel Franklin notched the win, going five innings and allowing one hit. He struck out seven.
East St. John led 5-1 on Thursday against East Jefferson before the Warriors put up a three-run fifth to cut the lead to one. But ESJ put four on the board in the sixth and tacked on two more in the seventh to close things out.
Lionel Weston went 4.2 innings to notch the win. He allowed four earned runs on three hits and struck out seven.
Trepagnier and Sylvester each collected two hits. Shane Nicholson drove in three runs.
