RESERVE – After dropping a pair of games to start the season, Riverside is surging forward.
Its latest win came Wednesday against Chapelle, as the Rebels rode a hot start to a 12-1 win over the Chipmunks by the 10-run rule in five innings.
It’s Riverside’s fourth victory in five games.
The Rebels scored 11 runs in the first two innings of play.
“We came out swinging the bats really, really well,” said Riverside coach Kristy Hebert. “We got the momentum going our way early on. This was by far our best hitting performance this season.”
Riverside collected 15 hits on the day.
Kristy Milioto went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Destin Vicknair kept pace, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of doubles. Katie Bailey was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Vicknair picked up the win on the mound. She struck out five and allowed two hits over five innings.
At last weekend’s Comet Classic tournament at St. Charles, Riverside split two games, defeating Assumption 9-0 and falling to Slidell 8-4.
Kori Bourgeois was 2-for-3 with a double against Assumption. Shea LaFountain went 2-for-2 and Taylor Terrio went 2-for-3.
Hebert said that the team’s strong play of late was what she’s come to expect.
“Even though we have a young team, mentally its not young,” said Hebert. “We’re getting into a little bit of a groove now.”
