Rain will not stop the party

My niece, Brittany, is going on a church retreat and I was asked to write a letter for her to receive while away. Don’t tell her, though, because it’s supposed to be a surprise.

Dear Brittany,

I still remember when your Mom was expecting you. Oh, the plans we made for your baby shower! We prepared, decorated, baked, and then it rained. And rained. And rained. The parking lot around the building was flooded. Rather than cancel the party, we simply had people park on higher ground, and shuttled the guests to the shower.

Memories. Tons of memories. And I’ve been blessed to have a front row seat for every phase of your life as you’ve grown from a precious young child into a mature, beautiful adult.

Today, I am so proud of the woman you have become and the fact that you are still actively serving the God Whom you were introduced to when you were just a little girl.

I can assure you that you are included in my prayers. On most mornings, before your head leaves your pillow, I have already asked God’s protection and guidance for your day.

I want to promise you a perfect future filled with only laughter, sweet surprises and mountain-top experiences. But Brittany, I can’t guarantee that. What I can promise you is that God will be there for you every single second of every single day of your life, and He cannot fail.

It gives me such peace to know that, just as

people allowed us to bring them through the

flood to your shower, if you continue to trust

God, He will deliver you through anything,

as promised in Isaiah 43:1-2, “ Fear not, for I

have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through

the waters, I will be with you; and when you

pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you.”

I love you forever.
