Each Wednesday, L’Observateur recognizes achievements and efforts of members of the community. This week we salute:
• EAST ST. JOHN HIGH JUNIOR INDIA ALLEN, who spearheaded an effort at the school to raise money for Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Last week Allen presented a check for more than $2,500 to the American Red Cross on behalf of the ESJ students.
• MARATHON, which partnered with the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children, and joined the state’s first lady in presenting an interactive whiteboard package worth $70,000 to Garyville/Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School last week. The funds will buy Promethean interactive boards as well as response units for each student and installation and training for six classrooms at GMMS.
• WEST ST. JOHN HIGH SENIOR DAMON SCOTT, who placed third in the Division II high jump in the recent Louisiana High School Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field State Championships. Division II included Classes 1-3A. Scott also finished fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump.
