LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John Parish arrested an Edgard man Friday evening in connection with a shooting outside a an Amp Circle home that injured a 23-year-old woman, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The female victim, whose name was not released, was transported to St. James Parish Hospital and later airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment of a gunshot wound to the neck. Her condition is not known.

Capt. Dane Clement, a public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said deputies arrested the victim’s boyfriend, Enoch Kinard, 35, of 123 Amp Circle, in connection with the shooting, which took place around 2:20 p.m. Friday.

Clement said investigators had determined the two were involved in some sort of domestic dispute prior to the shooting.

“Witnesses said Kinard retrieved a hand gun, walked outside and fired in an unknown direction,” Clement said. “The victim was not present when he fired the gun outside.”

At some point later, Kinard retrieved the gun a second time, and the gun discharged striking the victim.

Clement said the incident is still under investigation and would not elaborate further.

Kinard was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on charges of domestic aggravated battery, illegal discharge of a firearm and two fugitive warrants from St. James Parish. He is being held at the jail pending bond, which was not set as of press time Tuesday.
