RIVER RIDGE — Four quarters wasn’t enough to settle matters between district rivals St. Charles and John Curtis on Friday night. But one more point would be.
Curtis outscored the Comets 1-0 in overtime to finish off a defensive slugfest, 35-34, at John Curtis.
“It was a dogfight for second place. It’ll be one next time as well,” said SCC coach Chris Perrone.
The Patriots moved into second place in district play behind leader Riverside.
The Comets (8-16, 1-2) rallied from a 13-8 halftime deficit to take a 25-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.
But 17 missed free throws and 16 turnovers hurt St. Charles.
Perrone said that he’d have liked to see a little more aggressiveness offensively at the end of regulation.
“We were faced with a 2-3 zone, and we worked it, worked it, worked it … but I don’t think anyone really wanted to be the guy in that moment,” said Perrone. “By the same token, credit to Curtis.
“They played well defensively and got us out of our offensive rhythm.
Jonathan McKnight led the way for Curtis with 13 points.
John Williams led the Comets with 12 points.
Taylor Peytavin added 10, while Harley Scioneaux chipped in five.
ST. CHARLES 61, HAYNES 13 – The Comets outscored Haynes 30-8 in the first half en route to a dominating effort in their first district win of the season last Tuesday.
Williams scored 13 for SCC. Marcus Hall added 10.
