GARYVILLE – Months of planning, research and experimenting by sixth- through eighth-graders at Garyville/Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School concluded Friday morning as the children presented projects for the school-level science fair.
About 100 students competed solo or in groups in 10 distinct science categories ranging from botany to zoology. Common science fair topics, such as the study of the solar system or the workings of friction, were interspersed with more unique study areas that included the physics of Alabama running back Mark Ingram, the science behind carbonated beverages and how to make a potato clock.
Schools across St. John will continue to hold Science and Social Studies fairs throughout next week. John L. Ory will hold their science fair Friday, Jan 22. Social Studies fairs will be held at LaPlace Elementary, on Thursday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan. 22, and at Leon Godchaux Accelerated Program on Friday, Jan. 22.
