METAIRIE — St. Martin’s rode a strong first half showing to victory over St. Charles on Tuesday, topping the Comets 46-32 at St. Martin’s.
The Saints (11-4) outscored the Comets (5-7) 28-15 in the first half.
SCC coach Kelly Cupit felt it was an admirable effort by her squad against a strong team, especially considering the Comets were a bit shorthanded due to illnesses afflicting some players.
“I thought our girls played really well. By the end, we were worn out,” she said.
“I saw enough to make me real hopeful for the rematch this weekend.”
That rematch will come Sunday at the Rumble on the River tournament at the Alario Center, when the Saints and Comets will square off again.
Dominique DiCarlo led SCC in Tuesday’s game with 14 points. Kacie Braud added nine for the Comets.
Cupit said that she can see the confidence in her players growing despite the loss – even against quality competition such as St. Martin’s, she feels significant improvement coming on.
“We’re more disciplined at this point,” said Cupit.
“The girls have more confidence putting it on the floor. A lot of different girls have stepped up for us.”
