Overturned truck snares traffic

Foggy conditions and a slick roadway caused this 18-wheeler to flip on its side as it traveled along Airline Highway in Reserve Monday morning.
Authorities with State Police said the truck, owned by a Marrero food distribution company, was traveling westbound on Airline Highway just after 10:30 a.m. Monday and attempted to make a turn onto West 10th Street when the accident occurred. The truck slid of the wet roadway and into the drainage ditch on the shoulder of Airline. As the truck fell on its side, the rear of the trailer struck a utility pole and knocked out power to the traffic lights in the intersection. State Police said the driver of the truck was not seriously injured in the accident. Both eastbound lanes of Airline Highway were blocked for more than an hour as wreckers righted the vehicle and pulled it out of the intersection. State Troopers directed traffic through the intersection until the truck was cleared. (Staff photo by Robin Shannon)
