HAHNVILLE – A Boutte woman was arrested Wednesday following a domestic dispute last month in which she allegedly poured a pot of boiling grits onto her sleeping boyfriend, according to a release from the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

Carolyn Brown, 44, of Ponderosa Drive was booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility in Killona on second-degree battery charges. She allegedly caused second-degree burns on the unidentified victim’s face, left arm and upper torso, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, public information for the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, the man told deputies he came home late from work on Nov. 7 and got into an argument with Brown.

LaGrange said authorities do not know what sparked the argument, which took place at a home in the 1000 block of Paul Maillard Road in Luling, but said the man eventually told Brown he was breaking up with her.

LaGrange said the couple continued to argue a while longer before the man decided he was going to bed for the night. LaGrange said Brown allegedly poured the grits all over the man’s body while he slept and then fled the scene.

The report said the man woke up in obvious pain and contacted a family member who transported him to St. Charles Hospital. LaGrange said the man spent at least one night in the hospital for treatment of his burns. The victim’s condition in not known.

LaGrange said Brown was located Wednesday at the Paul Maillard address. She is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.
