‘We salute…’
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, December 9, 2009
Each Wednesday, L’Observateur will recognize individuals and businesses in the River Parishes who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.
We believe that an integral part of a community’s wellbeing is an attitude and arena where people who do good things … who work to improve life for others … who try to make a difference … are recognized and saluted.
Because this is a salute to members of the community of the entire River Parishes, we solicit your recommendations for groups or individuals to be considered for inclusion.
This week we salute:
• THE ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL AND LUTCHER HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS, which saw their seasons end Friday in the LHSAA semifinals. Although neither team will be making a trip to the Superdome this weekend, each enjoyed a spectacular season and are deserving of accolades.
• JAMES MICHAEL BELL, who was chosen a Hahnville High School’s Student of the Year. The Luling resident is a senior at HHS and is captain of the drum line. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society and Student Council.
• THE ST. JOHN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD AND ADMINISTRATION AT EAST ST. JOHN HIGH SCHOOL, who today are honoring Troy Giardano, the coach of the girls basketball team at ESJ who died in a car accident earlier this year. See page 6A for complete coverage of the event.
• TERRI SCOTT, who recently won a Christmas card contest sponsored by the St. John the Baptist Parish School System. The card by the East St. John student will be used by the school district as it sends greeting this holiday season. Scott competed against students from across the parish.
