Behind a pair of Adam Fabre goals, Riverside downed Walker-Baton rouge on Tuesday in Reserve, 2-1.

“It was a really tight game throughout,” said Riverside coach Stephen Millet. “A very intense, back and forth affair. And we had a nice crowd out there to see it.”

The Rebels trailed 1-0 early on after Walker scored in the match’s 15th minute.

But Fabre struck back with 10 minutes to go before halftime, and the Rebels tied things up, 1-1.

Fabre knocked in the go-ahead goal midway through the second half, and Riverside held for its first win of the season.

Millet praised his defense, noting some particularly strong saves from goalkeeper Beau Gaudet.

He also believes the Walker win could be one that his team looks back positively on as the season continues forward.

“It was an emotionally draining game,” said Millet.

“That team (Walker) will win some games this year. They’ll give someone fits.”

RA LOSES TWO AT SHAW TOURNEY – An undermanned Riverside squad fell twice at the Shaw soccer tournament Friday, first to Shaw’s J.V., 1-0, then to De La Salle, 2-0.

“We weren’t at full strength due to some outside factors, but we hung tough,” said Millet.

“We had tough opponents, and we had to play uphill the entiretime.”

Against Shaw in particular, Millet felt his team was able to control the ball in opposing territory.

“But we just couldn’t get it into the net,” he said.

Riverside returns to action today at the Shaw tournament.
