The “Girls with a Good Attitude” Club at LaPlace Elementary School had a luncheon with St. John the Baptist Parish Superintendent Courtney P. Millet. In addition to sharing lessons in etiquette, the purpose of this luncheon was to teach the girls how to eat fried chicken using a knife and fork.

Millet told the girls the story of how her now deceased aunt taught her sister and her special table etiquette. Millet also reiterated the importance of manners by reading to the club members from Dr. Cindy Post Senning and Peggy Post’s Emily Post Teen Manners: From Malls to Meals to Messaging and Beyond.

She shared a chapter called “Why Etiquette?” The chapter shared how “etiquette is really about relationships,” helping to start new ones and strengthening existing ones. The chapter also outlined guidelines for interacting with others appropriately in unfamiliar situations. Millet stressed that “etiquette is about choices,” and the girls have the choice to be

respectful and considerate of others.
