KENNER — A LaPlace man was apprehended Wednesday for his involvement in the beating and attempted armed robbery of three Hispanic men in Kenner earlier this month, said a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department.
Isaiah Lane, 19, 1805 Cartier Drive, was booked on charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of weapons and simple battery in connection with the June 9 incident, said Det. Brian McGregor, public information officer for the Kenner Police Department. McGregor said investigators are still looking for two other men who were also involved in the botched robbery.
According to a release from the police department, Lane and two other unidentified men approached three Hispanic men walking in the 2700 bock of Dawson Street. Lane allegedly pointed a gun at the three men and demanded money. When the victims, who understood very little English, tried to resist the robbery, Lane and his accomplices physically assaulted them.
McGregor said when a witness approached in an attempt to help the victims, Lane allegedly pointed the gun in the air and fired off three shots.
Kenner Police Detective Jesse Johnson, who is in charge of the investigation, later obtained information that tied Lane to the incident and the victims were able to indentify Lane as the gunman in the attack. Lane remains incarcerated at the Kenner jail.
Anyone with information concerning the identity of the other two subjects involved in the robbery is urged to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-2222.
