Riverside-based Fatty’s Restaurant got its summer baseball slate started over the weekend at the Lutcher summer tournament, boasting a number of faces in new places across the diamond.

Fatty’s dropped games to Destrehan-based Valero-St. Charles, 11-7, to Lutcher’s summer team, 7-5, and to the Bayou area Southland Hogs, 6-1. But the team rebounded to notch its first victory of the summer over E.D. White on Saturday, 6-4.

“We came out and did what we wanted and expected to do, and that’s score runs,” said Fatty’s Restaurant coach Britt Waguespack. “We just had too much trouble on the mound to win.”

Fatty’s Restaurant (1-3) had a number of returning veterans on the roster, but many are in the process of changing defensive positions.

“We made a lot of errors in the field,” Waguespack said. “But it came largely from guys trying to step up at a new position. But offensively, we know we can hit, and it gave us a chance to be in every game at the end.”

A three run sixth-inning helped Fatty’s overcome a 4-3 deficit to notch its first win over E.D. White.

Four different Fatty’s players went 2-for-3 at the plate — Tate Scioneaux, Ritchie Terrio, Austin Vicknair, and Ricky Johnson. Johnson led the team with two RBIs, while Terrio and Vicknair each drove in one.

Terrio got the win on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out seven in six innings.

The Fatty’s defense had its best showing of the tournament, committing only two errors. Waguespack noted his team had committed nine over the weekend’s previous games.

Despite Bryant Tassin’s home run and three RBIs, Fatty’s dropped an 11-7 decision to Valero earlier on Saturday.

Tassin finished 3-for-3. Dylan Martin was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jake Roussel and Chase Bazile each collected two hits.

On Friday, Lutcher’s summer team took a 6-2 lead through four innings and held off a late Rebel surge to seal a 7-5 win.

Martin was 2-for-3 with two RBis. Roussel had a double and two RBIs and Johnson also collected an RBI.

Tassin took the loss, despite allowing only six hits. He struck out five in six innings.

The Southland Hogs led 5-0 after three innings and held off Fatty’s from there later Friday.

Martin was 2-for-3. On the mound, he took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in three innings. He struck out four.
