HAHNVILLE — Authorities in St. Charles have arrested three of four men involved in a double shooting at a child’s birthday party in Killona Sunday night, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Aaron A. Williams, 23, 232 Schoolhouse Road, Killona, and Davin I. Washington, 21, 364 Trailsway Drive, Hahnville, surrendered to deputies just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, public information officer for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office. LaGrange said both men were booked on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by convicted felons.
The third man, Jabriel J. Bennett, 29, 249 Sycamore St., Hahnville, turned himself in about four hours later. LaGrange said Bennett, who was originally thought to be one of the victims in the shooting, was booked with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to reports from the Sheriff’s Office, the shootings occurred around 7:15 p.m. Sunday at Killona Park, where about 100 people were attending a birthday party for a 1-year-old boy. The incident started when an unidentified man asked another man to leave the party. LaGrange said three men left the scene, returned a short time later with weapons and began shooting at the man who asked their friend to leave.
The two men wounded in the gunfire attack were the unidentified victim, who was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and released from St. Charles Parish Hospital, and the young child’s father, who remains in ICU with a gunshot wound to the chest.
LaGrange said the child’s father was not involved in the argument that led to the shooting but got in the way when shots broke out.
Williams and Washington are being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional facility in Killona on $150,000 bonds, while Bennett remains incarcerated on a $30,000 bond. Bonds were set Thursday by District Court Judge Lauren Lemmon. All three men are prior convicted felons, but no information was available on their convictions.
LaGrange said Williams’ older brother, 26-year-old Bobby J. Williams Jr. of Killona, still remains at large as of Friday. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Joseph Dewhurst at 985-783-1135. Witnesses may also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Calls remain anonymous and anyone who provides information leading to an arrest is subject to a $2,500 reward.
