EDGARD — A St. John Parish woman was booked with attempted second-degree murder after she seriously injured another woman during a Monday morning altercation at an Edgard nightclub, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Coconekia Staggers, 21, 133 Sixth St., Edgard, is being held in the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on a $200,000 bond following an incident at Bailey’s Hot Spot in Edgard, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, Staggers allegedly struck another woman with an unknown sharp object during an argument at the bar around 1:07 a.m. Monday. The blow caused a serious laceration to the victim’s neck. The victim was able to identify Staggers, who fled the area after the fight, as the attacker. The weapon that was used has not been found.
Clement said the victim, whose name was not released, was transported to St. James Hospital and later transferred to Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner for further treatment. She was released sometime Monday afternoon. He said Staggers was apprehended without incident Monday evening and booked into the jail.
