LAPLACE — St. John authorities have apprehended a Metairie man in connection with a shooting on Colony Drive Thursday that left a LaPlace man injured.
Dendzil Gregoire, 19, 6201 Riverside Drive, Metairie, turned himself in Saturday evening after he learned that a warrant was issued for his arrest, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. Gregoire was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility on charges of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and wounding his 21-year-old cousin in the 700 block of Colony Drive following a verbal argument.
Clement said the victim, Galvin Bourgeois of LaPlace, and witnesses on the scene identified Gregoire as the shooter.
According to a report from police, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Gregoire and Bourgeois were seen arguing in the street. At some point during the altercation, Gregoire produced a handgun and fired multiple times striking Bourgeois in the shoulder and hip. Bourgeois was transported to river Parishes Hospital in LaPlace, where he remains in stable condition.
Clement would not disclose the nature of the argument. He also said the handgun used in the shooting has not been retrieved by investigators.
Gregoire remains in jail on a $150,000 bond.
