East St. John’s Jacobi Wilson had never won a track meet MVP award until two weeks ago. Now, she’s won two.

Wilson captured her second consecutive Outstanding Girls Track Athlete trophy at the South Terrebonne meet this past Friday, showing off the improvement that she’s made after an already strong showing last season.

“It feels good. I just thank God, first and foremost,” said Wilson. “It feels good to know I’m getting better. I feel like I’m on a roll.”

Wilson finished first in the 200 and 400 meter events. She took a second place finish in the 100 meters. Overall, she accounted for 30 of ESJ’s 57 points, good for a sixth place finish at the 10 team meet.

The Wildcats’ Dynekia Sanders captured second place in the triple jump.

ESJ coach Tiffany Wilson says Sanders has made big strides since last season.

“She’s stepping up big,” Coach Wilson says. “She’s improved her technique, her delivery’s good. She’s making a big impact for us, because we’re getting points in the field with her, not just on the track.”

The girls 4×200 relay team (Sanders, Darichelle Sampson, Deznee Wilson and Terrian Gauff) took a second place finish.

Quinton Johnson turned in his second straight strong performance for the Wildcat boys, finishing first in the 200 meters (22.06), and second in the 100 meters (11.45).

“That’s why we call him ‘The Beast’,” laughed ESJ coach Eleno Rodriguez. “We expect him to place in four events before we’re through. We just don’t want to burn him out early.”

Patrick Lewis took second place in the shot put (49-3) for the second straight week.

“I think he’ll challenge for the state title,” Rodriguez said,

Alex Singleton finished right behind Lewis in the shot put (48-10) to place third.

“He’s been a pleasant surprise. He’s doing well in the shot put, and  also the javelin. Maybe he can help us in two events,” Rodriguez said.

ESJ finished seventh of 17 among boys teams.
