HAHNVILLE – Authorities in St. Charles say that two armed men allegedly robbed an Ama convenience store clerk at gunpoint as she closed for business Friday evening, said a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, said the robbery occurred around 10:20 p.m. at Jif’s Food Mart, located at 10319 River Road in Ama.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the clerk, a 50-year-old Luling woman, was locking the front doors of the store when she was approached by two black males wearing black hooded sweaters, black pants and black rags around their faces. One man was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall, while the other was described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall. Both men were armed with handguns.

The clerk told deputies that the two men ordered her to unlock the store and demanded that she hand over money from the cash register. The clerk went back into the store and as she was handing over some of the money, the store’s audible alarm was sounded. At that point, the robbers fled the scene in an unknown direction and got away with a small amount of cash.

Yoes said the victim, whose name was not released, was able to lock herself in the store until Sheriff’s deputies could arrive. He said the victim was not harmed during the incident.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information should contact Det. Fahrig at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807.
