West St. John fell just short of its second substantial comeback victory this season, falling to Ridgewood on Thursday 15-13 in Edgard.

The game was called after six innings due to darkness.

Just as they had to St. James nine days prior, the Rams fell behind 10-3 to the Golden Eagles in the fourth inning, largely thanks to a six-run third frame by Ridgewood. But West St. John (1-2) came roaring back, and actually took a 13-10 lead at one point.

“Again, we fall behind 10-3, and again we fought back,” said West St. John coach Brandon Dumas. “I wish we had come away with the win, but I’m very proud that these girls refuse to quit. Now, it’s just a matter of finding out what it’s gonna take to finish these games off.”

Chasity Everson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead West St. John. Armani Favorite also went 3-for-4, with two RBIs. Kyla Morris was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

After taking two runs in the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Rams exploded offensively. West St. John scored 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, and went ahead by three.

“I told the girls before the game that we were going to be aggressive at the plate today,” Dumas said. “We got on a run, and the ball started finding holes.”

But Ridgewood continued to make waves offensively. It put up four runs in the fifth to retake the lead, 14-13, and added an insurance run in the sixth.

The Golden Eagles struck out two Rams in the bottom of the sixth en route to clinching the win.

The Achilles’ heel of the Rams so far this year has been the play of its young defense. While starting pitcher Deveny Batiste allowed nine hits and walked only two in her six innings of work, WSJ committed 10 errors.

“We gave them four runs in the fifth,” Dumas said. “Those all came off of errors. We let one slip from our hands because of that. I tell them that if we can ever cut down on those, we could be a great team. But its something that will improve as we go on. We‘re still very young.”

West St. John will next play on Tuesday, as it hosts Ecole Classique at 4 p.m. in a rematch of last week’s contest.
