ESJ’s Jasmine Brown leads Ladycats by example

As a sophomore, East St. John softball standout Jasmine Brown already is one of the top run producing bats in the Wildcats lineup. Brown bats third for coach Monica Hebert’s team, and is already off to a strong start in 2009.

“She’s one of my top players,” says Hebert. “When she’s up to bat, I know I can expect a base hit, or for her to make contact to move the runners over. We can count on her.”

Defensively, she’s just as much a catalyst for a young Wildcats team.

“She’s got the strongest arm behind the plate that I’ve seen,” says Hebert. “Even if she doesn’t get us started by getting a hit, she’ll do it by throwing out a runner…she’s more of a silent leader, but she does a lot of things to try and get us going.”

Off the field, Brown also shines. Hebert says her catcher maintains a 3.9 GPA and isn’t one to go half-speed at anything.

“She’s very smart,” Hebert says. “She always tries her best at anything she does.”

So…let’s get to know Jasmine Brown.
