LUTCHER – St. James High School senior, Sharis Steib, joins Lutcher High School eighth grader Davi Clement and St. James Parish Schools Gifted Center/Sixth Ward Elementary fifth grader Kelse Alexander as students of the year for the 2008-2009 school year.

By being named Student of the Year for the parish, the three students will move on to compete for the same award at the state regional level. From the regional level students will compete statewide for the coveted Louisiana Student of the Year award.

“Student of the Year is the event in which our students get to shine for their academic success as well as their community involvement and extracurricular activities,” stated Gaynell Albert, SJPS administrative director for student services who coordinates the Student of the Year Awards. “As usual, we had wonderful participants, and they all represented their schools in a manner we can be proud of.  They should be congratulated on a job well done.  They are all true winners.  I would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents of our participants. We realize that your continued support allows the students to fulfill their dreams.”

“Sharis Steib, Davi Clement and Kelse Alexander will do an outstanding job representing St. James Parish Schools at the regional level,” Albert added. “They exemplify a commitment to excellence in the most profound way.”
