On Friday night, St. Charles showed rival Lutcher a better team than the Bulldogs saw in the teams’ first meeting last month. But it still wasn’t enough to change the final result.

Lutcher improved to 5-0 in District 9-3A after topping visiting St. Charles 57-50, clinching a sweep of the Bulldogs’ River Parish rivals.

Reginald Jackson led Lutcher with 16 points. Chris Richardson scored nine, and Dexter McCoil added eight.

Zach Goodwin continued his string of solid scoring performances with 15 to lead St. Charles. DeMarcus Bernard scored 12. Birch Matus scored 11. Gabe Corchiani added 10.

Lutcher jumped out to an early advantage, outscoring SCC 14-6 in the first quarter.

From there, things virtually even. The Bulldogs led 31-24 at half, and each team scored 26 second half points.

The Comets are alone in third place in District 9-3A, a game ahead of Port Allen.

Lutcher leads second place Plaquemine by one game.
