Every community has ‘A best kept secret’

Last week, a car abandoned in a garage in Britain over 50 years ago, sold for $4.4 million at an auction

in Paris. The car, a 1937 Bugatti Type 57S, once represented the height of motoring achievement.  When most other car’s top speed was 50 mph, the Bugatti, could go as fast as 130 mph.  It was owned by an orthopedic surgeon, but was parked in his garage in northern England and discovered after his death in 2007.

I think we could say that one of the best kept secrets in England was stored in a garage.

Every community has what we often refer to as valuable best kept secrets.  My thoughts are of two such organizations in St. James Parish.

One is the Lutcher KC’s and the other is Lutcher VFW PostNo. 5862.  The KC cooks are on call to help any organization that makes a positive impact on their community.  I understand that, monthly, they sell Sunday dinners to raise money that helps support nonprofit organizations.  Get High on Life benefits from their service to others as they prepare the meal for our annual banquet.

I’m sure some of them will be embarrassed with this article, because they never seek the limelight.  I just had to let them know their labor of love does not go unnoticed.

The VFW members provide a service that only they can provide.  At all military funerals, they are present with an honorable farewell to deceased veterans.  With their green blazers and VFW headgear, they perform their duty to the community with pride and integrity, having served our country with honor, protecting our

freedom.

They are present at the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities.  They, also, have been a big asset to Get High on Life by being the Color Guard at some of our functions.

The Bugatti had a price tag of $4.4 million.  Not bad for an old car!  But the services that the KC and VFW members provide for St.  James are far more valuable than any amount of money.
