Riverside fell to Academy of our Lady on Monday night in the Rebels’ final game at the Rumble on the River tournament at the Alario Center, 39-35.
The game between the two teams was the final game in the Blue Division’s “third place” bracket consisting of teams that finished third place in pool play.
“At the end of the game, we were sending them to the free throw line. They made their shots, and we missed ours throughout,” said Riverside Coach Kristy Hebert.
Three Riverside starters fouled out of the game, one that Hebert says came in stark contrast to the team’s victory earlier in the day over De La Salle (details ran in our last issue).
“We just didn’t shoot as well or execute as well,” Hebert said. “We played much better in the first game.”
Riverside (2-15) finished the tournament with one win and three losses.
Ellender (Blue Division), Curtis (Red Division) and Dutchtown (White Division) each won their respective division’s championships.
RESERVE STEPS UP DEFENSE: Reserve Christian, meanwhile, went 1-3 at the tournament as well.
The Eagles defeated Ridgewood, but fell to Academy of our Lady, Fisher, and Ellender.
Reserve outscored Ridgewood 12-4 in the first quarter of their game, and maintained a consistent lead to notch a 27-21 win.
Daysha Blount and Jamie Bolden each scored eight to lead RCS. Raven Campbell added seven.
“Our press forced a lot of turnovers in the second half, and that kept us ahead,” said Reserve Coach Richard Englander.
The Eagles dropped a close one to Academy of Our Lady, 27-25. Reserve led 21-18 entering the final quarter, but AOL outscored RCS 9-4 in the final period.
Blount led the way with 16.
Blount and Bolden each scored in double figures against Fisher, but the Gators held onto a 37-29 victory.
Ellender, meanwhile, proved to be too much for RCS to handle from the start, topping the Eagles 49-21.
Englander was pleased with what he feels is a commitment to defense by his team – aside from the loss to Ellender, Reserve allowed more than single digit scoring in a quarter once in 12 chances over the other three games.
“The girls have definitely stepped up our defense a bit,” said Englander.
COMETS SPLIT TWO: St. Charles split two games on Saturday at the tournament, defeating De La Salle 47-26 and falling to McMain 47-32. Details were not available at press time.
