HAHNVILLE – Authorities in St. Charles arrested a Paradis man after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend into the path of an oncoming car during an altercation Saturday evening, said a spokesman for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

Dean M. Cheramie, 44, 602 Fonda St., was booked with attempted first-degree murder, simple battery and resisting an officer following the incident, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, public information

officer for the Sheriffs’ Office. LaGrange said Cheramie is being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility in Killona in lieu of a $500,000 bond set by state District Judge Kirk Granier.

According to a report on the incident, Cheramie was arguing with a woman at a gas station along US 90 in Boutte around 5:49 p.m.

Saturday when he became physical and started choking her. LaGrange said Cheramie dragged the woman to the street and threw her into the path of an oncoming car. The car was able to stop just inches away from the woman.

LaGrange said when deputies arrived Cheramie fled the scene toward a pair of railroad tracks adjacent to the gas station. After a brief pursuit and a struggle with police, Cheramie was taken into custody.
