Baishawn Pratt recently set a new East St. John cross country record as the Wildcats competed in their district meet at the Walker High Shootout on Oct. 18.

Pratt, a sophomore, finished fourth in district with a time of 23:12. Pratt finished 20th overall at the shootout. His time stacks up as officially the 40th best time in the state of Louisiana this year.

That mark was a school record, and helped Pratt secure All-District honors as one of the team’s two representatives.

The other was Dawn Brooks, who finished ninth among girls in the district with a time of 23:12.

Other Wildcats competitors at the shootout finished: Patrick Washington, 19:42; Matthew Fobb, 19:57; Michael Tabb, 21:35; Alvah Johnson, 21:43; Wesley Triche, 22:32; Dasjon Jordan, 22:37;

Flor Nova, 26:16; Edcel Morris, 29:14; Bianca Cook, 30:13; Sarah Chewning, 31:24; Chassie Leblanc, 31:27.

Only a day after competing in that race, ESJ runners competed in the Andouille Festival Race.

Pratt won the 5 mile race with a time of 29:10. Brooks was the second female finisher in the 2mile race with a time of 14:34. ESJ Coach Paul Dupuy finished fifth overall in the 5-mile run and first in the 35-39 age group.

Patrick Washington was 1st in the 14 and under for 5 miles; Matthew Fobb was 1st in the 15-17category for 5 miles; Michael Tabb was 2nd in the 15-17category for 5 miles; Edcel Morris was the 5th place girl in the 2 mile; Daniel Chewning was the 9th place male in the 2 mile; Henry Bustamante was the 10th place male in the 2 mile.

“I’m very excited. This team is steadily improving,” said Dupuy. The best part is there are several weeks of competition left for us to get faster.”
