LAPLACE – Paul Oncale, Director of Public Safety, and Kathy Gilmore, Assistant Director/Chief of Staff, announced the schedule for Shelter-In-Place training of all students, kindergarten through 12th grade,  in the parish.

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), composed of every major parish industry,  in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) began working on a project in April to reach every St. John the Baptist Parish student and instruct them on the proper way to Shelter-In-Place.

The program includes a seven-and-a-half minute instructional video, starring nine local students who attend East St. John High, West St. John High, St. Charles Catholic, Ascension of Our Lord and St. James High School.

The St. John Parish School Board, Elton Oubre and Superintendent Dr. Courtney Millet are all informed of and support the plan.  A banner will be displayed outside each school on the day of its Shelter-In-Place program.

Sponsors include:  Air Products, Bayou Steel, DuPont, DuPont Performance Elastomers, DPC, Evonik (formerly Degussa Stockhausen), Entergy, Marathon, Nalco, Port of South Louisiana, River Parishes Hospital and St. John   Emergency Operations Center.
