HAHNVILLE – Authorities in St. Charles Parish arrested a Des Allemands man wanted on charges of murder in Virginia, said a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, said Jowarski Russell Nedd, 28, 131 Carlon Dr., was captured by a Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team after a warrant was issued by officials in Accomack County, Virginia, who determined that Nedd had returned to Louisiana to seek shelter with family. Nedd is being held without bond at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility in Killona awaiting extradition to Accomack County. Upon return, Nedd faces charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It is not known when Nedd will return to Virginia to face his charges.
According to reports from the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, Nedd is the prime suspect in the murder of 53-year-old Albert Hargis, a business owner who was in the middle of building a home in the parish. Hargis’ body was found August 19 in a wooded area not far from the building site.
It is unclear how long Nedd had been living in Virginia and investigators have not released a motive for the shooting. Yoes said that Nedd is a longtime resident of St. Charles Parish and had attended high school in the area. Nedd has a lengthy criminal record that includes various felony charges.
Authorities in Accomack would not release any more information on the incident, or their investigation, at this time.
