With everything coming down to one final event, West St. John’s Terrance Nathan had to find one final push within himself.

Nathan found all the energy he had left to push ahead of the pack on the final leg of the 1600 meter relay, and it gave West St. John the win in the event – not to mention, the district crown in last Wednesday’s district 9-1A meet.

The Rams score of 97 was good for first place overall, edging out North Iberville and White Castle, each of whom scored 96.

It meant a clean sweep for the Rams, as the girls also secured a district championship, posting 105 points, 19 more than second place White Castle’s 86.

West St. John boys’ track Coach Martin Sylvain felt that his team stepped up in a big way to notch the title.

“I am very happy with our performance,” he said. “We really had some great balance. It came down to the last event and we pulled through. It’s all you can ask for.”

The winning time in the 4×400 was 3:37.00. The relay team was comprised of Kenneth Dabney, Donovan Dorsey, Terrance Nathan, and Jordan Triche.

All three boys’ relay teams took first. The 4×100 (43.8) was comprised of Nathan, Dorsey, Sherman Sims and Donald Brown. The 4×200 (1:31.7) included Dabney, Sims, Nathan, and Melvin Edgar.

The Rams took six individual first place finishes. Brown dominated the field events, taking three first place finishes: in the javelin (175-9), long jump (23-1) and in the triple jump (44-7).

“I expected Donald to win, but not in the fashion he did,” said Sylvain. “That was his best performance of the year.

Blake Comminie finished first in the discus (142). Blake Carter took first in the shotput (41-10).

On the track, Nathan took first in the 400 meters (53.6), while Triche topped the 300 meter hurdles (44-1).

For the girls, Tranell Mitchell, Kyla Morris and Talar Lewis each took first place finishes.

Mitchell took first in the triple jump with a 33-9. Lewis ran a 13.17 to top the 100 meters, and Morris’s time of 51.5 was tops in the 300 meter hurdles. Lewis also took third in the 200 meters with a time of 28.9, while Morris took second in the 100 meter hurdles (19.1).
