St. Charles punched its ticket into the playoffs last Monday, securing the second seed in District 9-3A as it defeated Port Allen 7-0.

The Comets (17-9-2, 6-2) went on to defeat Plaquemine last Wednesday 14-3 to finish the district season with six wins, two behind 9-3A champion Lutcher (26-6, 8-0).

The Comets scored seven runs on nine hits, and committed two errors. Marc Picciola notched a win and Donovan Duffy the save as Comet pitchers combined to allow only two Pelican hits.

Jordan Millet’s grounder to short scored Brandon Becker to score the Comets’ first run of the game, in the second inning. In the third, Corey Reed drove in Alex Marse on a base hit up the middle to make it 2-0.

In the fourth , Jonathan Cancienne reached on a walk, then stole second and third to set up a Millet RBI double.

A sacrifice fly by Marse would score Brady Hitt to make it 4-0. Brandon Becker led off the sixth  with a walk, and would eventually reach third and steal home when courtesy runner Grant Authement got caught in an intentional rundown between first and second base.

Reed would single home the Comets’ sixth run, and Picciola knocked him home to send across the Comets’ final run.
