 Riverside clinched second place in District 10-2A on Tuesday after defeating host St. James 10-0 in five innings by the 10-run rule on Tuesday.

Jade Falgoust (5-3) earned the win, going five innings and allowing only two hits while walking two. He struck out six Wildcats.

After struggling at the beginning of the season, Riverside has rebounded to win seven of its last eight games.

“We were pressing early in the year. Now, nobody’s stressing,” said Riverside Coach Britt Waguespack. “We had come from behind wins against Newman and Fisher. Now, we know there is going to be adversity, and we know we can overcome it.”

Remi Poirrier was 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs scored. Timmy Teague was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Kane Keller was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Wade Delaneuville added an RBI.

Riverside (12-16-1,7-2) scored five runs in the second inning, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to cement the win.

The Rebels were scheduled to face Lusher on Thursday, and will finish out their regular season on Saturday against E.D. White.

The Rebel lineup has generated 10 or more runs in six of the last eight games. Jade Falgoust, Wade Delaneuville, and Timmy Teague have been major factors throughout the season, and all seem to be peaking at the right time.

Falgoust’s on base percentage is over .700, and he had scored 30 runs entering Thursday’s game. Delaneuville’s got nine home runs and 40 RBIs, while Teague isn’t far behind, with six home runs and 33 RBIs. All three are hitting over .400.

Falgoust was inserted into the leadoff role as district play began, and Waguespack hasn’t regretted the decision at all.

“He’s such a clutch guy,” said Waguespack. “He’s going to do exactly what he has to do to get on base for Wade and Timmy. We know if Jade Falgoust gets on base, he’s gonna score time and time again.

“And once he’s on, not too many can get both Wade and Timmy out.”
