There are no off-days in District 6-5A, that much is clear so far this season. And there aren’t many holes in the offensive lineups of the teams that make it up.
As East St. John learned on Tuesday, Dutchtown is no different.
The Griffins’ Donnie White had a home run and 4 RBIs, and Justin Boudreaux had a double and three RBIs to lead Dutchtown to an 11-1 victory over visiting East St. John on Tuesday by the 10-run rule in five innings.
Dutchtown’s Cameron Breeden (3-2) notched the win. East St. John’s Brandon Trant (1-2) pitched four innings and took the loss.
East St. John Coach Ryan Sims said that to compete in the district, one has to be fundamentally sound in all facets – especially defense, where a mistake is usually capitalized on.
“We’re not catching the ball. We’re giving the other team too many outs,” Sims said. “Any time that you give these teams extra outs, they’ll make you pay.”
Kendrick Sentimore led ESJ (8-11-1, 0-8) at the plate, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Dutchtown (16-13, 4-4) is in a logjam for third place in District 6-5A with Destrehan and St. Amant, all teams tied with four wins and four losses in 6-5A play.
After the Wildcats scored to take the lead in the top of the first inning, the Griffins scored three runs in the first, one in the second, and four in the third to take control.
After a scoreless fourth, Dutchtown tacked on three runs in the fifth to end the game.
“We’ve been a little snake bitten,” said Sims. “A bad bounce here and there, if those don’t happen, these games might not be so lopsided.
“But it goes back to practicing fundamentals. If you don’t have the routine things down first, you can’t compete with these teams.”
