The St. Charles and Lutcher golf team’s locked up for the second time this season last Wednesday at Riverlands. And for the second time, it was a successful day for the Comets.

Beau Schexnayder posted a score of 40 to lead St. Charles as it defeated the Bulldogs 186-198.

Matt Autin scored a 45 for SCC.

Kaleb Clement led Lutcher with a score of 43. Reece Mabile scored a 49.

Zeringue incorporated some younger players in his lineup for the day’s event. It allowed him to evaluate his team’s depth.

“I don’t feel like there’s a lot of separation on the team when you go down the line,” he said. “There’s a little bit of experience with my seniors (Schexnayder and Ryan Forsythe), but after that, my next most experienced player is a freshman (Autin).”

A day later, St. Charles returned to Riverlands to face Vandebilt Catholic. The Terriers strong, deep team proved its ability, besting the Comets 161-186.

Vandebilt was led by Mitch Bergeron’s 38. Luke David added a score of 40.

T.J. Landry led the Comets with a 43. Autin posted a 47.

“It was one of our worst days of the year,” said Zeringue. “Maybe we were a bit intimidated at how good those guys are. They’re always one of the top teams in 4A. I’ve never seen them struggle.”
