Karate students shine at regional championship

William Cothren’s Taekwondo Plus Karate School participated in the regional Taekwondo championships on Feb. 23 at Grace King. 300 competitors in all were there from Southern Louisiana. All competed for medals and awards in forms, free forms, and sparring. Winners included:
White belts: Phillip Tran, 1st forms and 1st one-step sparring; Timmy Humphries 2nd one-stop sparring ; Matthew Hattala, 2nd forms and 3rd one-step sparring; Kristen Hernandez, 3rd forms and 3rd one-step sparring;
Yellow belts: Joseph Mooney, 1st forms; Jawan Hoyt, 2nd forms and 3rd one-step sparring; Jacob Todd, 3rd forms and 3rd one-step sparring.
Green Belts: Randall Duhe, 3rd forms and 2nd sparring; R. Eric Fair, 2nd sparring.
Senior green belts: Dominick Sparcella, 2nd forms; Roger Borne, 3rd forms and 2nd sparring; Shealee Schexnayder, 1st forms and 3rd sparring.
Blue belts: Robert LaFrance, 3rd forms and 1st sparring; Jude Bocage, 3rd forms and 2nd sparring.
Senior blue belts: Rachel mcFall, 3rd forms and 2nd sparring.
Senior brown belts: Wyatt Clement, 2nd forms and 1st sparring; Alexsis Tran, 4th forms.
Red belts: Jaycee Snowden, 3rd forms and 3rd sparring; Tyler Lennix, 3rd forms.
1st degree black belts: Joshua Barnes, 4th forms.
3rd degree black belts: Daniel Miller, 3rd form & 1st free design form; Zachary Cothren, 2nd sparring; Damien Dinet, 4th forms; Sherman Jones, 4th forms; Jared James, 2nd forms and 2nd sparring.
