After a season opening loss to Assumption, North Iberville has laid waste to every opponent since, winning eleven straight games by an average of over 25 points per game.

In other words, it was not the ideal draw for West St. John’s district opener.

The Rams became the latest team to fall prey to the North Iberville rampage, losing 79-41 at North Iberville.

Lauren Pryer’s scored 46 points to lead the Bears to the win, dominating the low post and causing all kinds of problems for West St. John (4-5, 0-1).

“We couldn’t stop her,” said West St. John Coach Lester Smith. “They just pounded it inside to her all game. She’ll probably be the M.V.P. of our district.”

North Iberville (8-1, 1-0) set the tempo early, taking a 27-13 lead after a quarter. That lead grew to 42-25 at halftime, and the game was effectively over after three quarters, when the Bears took a 64-37 lead into the fourth.

“They were just a better team,” said Smith.

Smith also said that his team needs to improve its shot selection as it prepared to face Ascension Catholic in its second district game on Friday.

“Once we got behind, we were taking bad shots, horrible shots,” said Smith. “We need to take better shots in the future.”
