So far, everything has clicked for the St. Charles Comets in district play this season.
The Comets improved to 2-0 in district play last Saturday after defeating Houma Christian for the second time this year, 13-0 at St. Charles.
The win was the sixth shutout of the season for St. Charles (8-5, 2-0)
Nick Woodroof, Peter Lambert-Oswald, and John Abbate each scored two goals for SCC. Michael Weber and Paul Cupit each added one.
St. Charles went on the road to defeat Houma Christian 5-0 in the teams’ first meeting.
Comets Coach Rick Woodroof said that his team was able to exploit a Houma Christian defensive alignment that left its goal vulnerable to one-on-one opportunities.
“They pressed us and played flat on the back line of their defense,” said Woodroof. “Once you break that, you can run past that line and get a clean shot at the goalkeeper.”
The win allowed St. Charles to get back on the winning track after a tough loss to St. Thomas on Dec. 13.
The Comets’ district game against Riverside, which had been scheduled to occur last Thursday, was rained out and rescheduled.
The Comets have seven games scheduled in January, a lighter load that Woodroof is pleased to have on the heels of what he calls a “brutal December.”
“It gives us some time to heal up for our final push,” said Woodroof.
